Level Design: DM-Cathedral

So, what have i been up to these last few weeks...

I've been making a level in UDK (May update) with a small team of 4 (note that 2 of the 4 team members dropped out and turned absolutely nothing noteworthy in) in 6 weeks (about 1 day a week was committed to this project, each of my 4 courses gets 1 day and 3 days are for going to school :P ).

I assigned the outside environment to myself and another good modeller and a second team for the inside (where 2 people left and so i was forced to also make the inside at the last minute).

Regardless of all the roadblocks in this project, we have one of the best projects for LD so far that i've seen and it also left the teachers speechless (they just said they had no real comments so i'll take that as a good thing =P).

For the outside, most was created by me, with exception the back of the cathedral (the huge glass dome) and the pillars you see there that are reused on the church + the rocks were made by the other modeller who was working on the outside. I made all the materials, effects, did the lighting, color correction, gameplay, etc...
Almost everything is custom made except for the cliffs which couldn't be changed in time). Too bad it wasn't finished (largely due to half of my team leaving...), but i'm still glad we got this far.

As you can see in image 5, the inside is empty. Just so you know, i made the walls, floor, carpet and stairs there. God i love teamwork... /sarcasm :P

Anyhow, now that I'm through with this, I'll be concentrating on getting some levels/scenes done in the summer for my portfolio, those will look quite a bit more finished than this.

hey looks nice TW, only not really UDK-like... i mean something look like they belong in UE2... the trees for example.
looking forward to see your portfolio.

I get what you mean with the trees, seeing the small timeframe we had everything is way more low poly/low resolution in textures to finish the project on time. (trees use 128² pixels for the leaves and 256² for the bark f.e.). The entire entrance was made in several hours (around 8 or so), so this was purely a project of quantity rather than quality. But don't worry, I'll redeem myself in the summer with my sci fi project ;)

In total i put about 12-15 days and did everything you see in the map (except some models and their corresponding who were supplied by my team). So for that timeframe, i'm quite pleased.
